Early ski season is off to a great start thanks to the snow god Ullr.  Over the weekend, Breckenridge Ski Resort reported 15 inches of new snow.  And today, the snow god is still helping us out.  The skies are cloudy and the snowflakes keep falling.  With plenty of natural snow falling from the skies, Breckenridge Ski Resort is able to open up Peak 9, starting November 23rd.  Guests can expect full service, including dining at Ten Mile Station and The Maggie.  From the Quiksilver lift, you will be able to access Silverthorne, King's way, and Crosscut.  The lower half of the Sawmill Run will be accessible from the Snowflake lift.  The Super 8 connect will also start service so that skiers and snowboarders are able to go back and forth between Peak 8 and

Breckenridge Ski Resort announced a great new way to get fresh tracks throughout the 2013/2014 season. When Breckenridge Ski Resort opens Peak 9 for the season, every Friday until the end of the season, if you are a guest at one of the Breckenridge lodging properties, then Peak 9 will open just for you!

If you have booked, or planning on booking, to stay at any of Breckenridge's official lodging properties, including The DoubleTree, Crystal Peak Lodge, One Ski Hill Place, and The Village at Breckenridge, Thursday to Friday, then you are eligible for "First Tracks Friday". Participants must hold a vaild Breckenridge lift ticket or a season pass.

The ground is blanketed with snow.  It is ski season and not many people are thinking about next summer.  But the USA Pro Cycling Challenge recently announced the route for 2014.  August 18th through August 24th, pro cyclers will be descending on Colorado.  The cities that will be hosting the Stage Starts and Stage Finishes have been decided.  Great news!  Breckenridge will be hosting again!

Stage One: The pro cyclists will be doing a circuit throughout Aspen and Aspen Snowmass Village.  

Stage Two:Aspen, finishing in Creste Butte.  

Stage Three: Gunnison, finishing at Monarch Mountain

Stage Four: Colorado Springs Circuit

Stage Five: Woodland Park finishing in Breckenridge

Stage Six: Vail Time Trials

Organizers of the premier American bike race have announced the routes for each of the stages of this year’s event and the two days of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Breckenridge promise to be exciting ones!  

On Tuesday, August 20th racers will begin the day in Aspen, then battle Independence Pass, snake their way along the Collegiate Peaks through Buena Vista then turn east on US 285 passing over Trout Pass, and into Fairplay.  There they’ll head north on Highway 9 passing through the historic town of Alma, then over another daunting pass, Hoosier Pass at 11,541 before descending into Breckenridge.  But the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Breckenridge doesn’t end there!  Once in town they’ll face one more challenge: the 15% grade of Moonstone Road,

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Breckenridge will be August 20th AND 21st this year.  That’s right. Breckenridge will be included in not one, but TWO legs of the 2013 premiere cycling event with both a stage finish and stage start on the tour’s schedule.

The “World’s Best Stage Race” according to CyclingNews is an incredible event, exciting for all ages to witness and experience. If the recent International Snow Sculpture Championships left you yearning to create your own snow masterpiece, then the Breck Snowflake Challenge coming to Breckenridge March 4th-9th is your perfect opportunity.  

Started by locals in the 1960s, the zany snow art competition was part of the festivities paying homage to Ullr, the Norse god of snow.  Shops and restaurants along Main Street were the backdrop to this creative, local event.  As time passed that local event morphed into what is now the International Snow Sculpture Championships, that draws professional snow artists from all over the world to compete.

The time has come again to delight in the incredible works of art that will be on display around Breckenridge's Riverwalk Center.  And the medium for such beautiful creations, you ask?  Snow, of course.  The curtain has risen on the Breckenridge Snow Sculptures where sixteen international teams compete in the 23rd Annual Budweiser International Snow Sculpting Championships. 


Now through February 3rd, the highly skilled and creative teams will be morphing the 20 ton blocks of snow into mind-boggling creations.  Think underwater scenes and geometric patterns that seem to defy gravity.  Three dimensional portraits with incredible details and puppy dogs curious of their mirror images.  Such is the variety and creativity of the Breckenridge Snow

The time of year has come to town again when locals and visitors alike don Viking hats, line Main Street for the festive parade, enjoy bon fires and fireworks and the many other events that make up the week-long Breckenridge Ullr Fest. Paying homage to the Norse God of Snow, chants of U-llr, U-llr (ooh-lur) can be heard throughout the town as the fifty year tradition continues beseeching the god to bless the town and surroundings with the beloved white flakes.

Today the Breckenridge Ski Resort kicked off its 50th Anniversary season with great fanfare, clear blue skies and great early season snow conditions. The Colorado Superchair was turning promptly at 9am, whisking thousands of skiers and snowboarders to the top of Peak 8 for their first run of the season.
