Early ski season is off to a great start thanks to the snow god Ullr. Over the weekend, Breckenridge Ski Resort reported 15 inches of new snow. And today, the snow god is still helping us out. The skies are cloudy and the snowflakes keep falling. With plenty of natural snow falling from the skies, Breckenridge Ski Resort is able to open up Peak 9, starting November 23rd. Guests can expect full service, including dining at Ten Mile Station and The Maggie. From the Quiksilver lift, you will be able to access Silverthorne, King's way, and Crosscut. Breckenridge Ski Resort announced a great new way to get fresh tracks throughout the 2013/2014 season. When Breckenridge Ski Resort opens Peak 9 for the season, every Friday until the end of the season, if you are a guest at one of the Breckenridge lodging properties, then Peak 9 will open just for you!
If you have booked, or planning on booking, to stay at any of Breckenridge's official lodging properties, including The DoubleTree, Crystal Peak Lodge, One Ski Hill Place, and The Village at Breckenridge, Thursday to Friday, then you are eligible for "First Tracks Friday". The ground is blanketed with snow. It is ski season and not many people are thinking about next summer. But the USA Pro Cycling Challenge recently announced the route for 2014. August 18th through August 24th, pro cyclers will be descending on Colorado. The cities that will be hosting the Stage Starts and Stage Finishes have been decided. Great news! Organizers of the premier American bike race have announced the routes for each of the stages of this year’s event and the two days of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Breckenridge promise to be exciting ones!
On Tuesday, August 20th racers will begin the day in Aspen, then battle Independence Pass, snake their way along the Collegiate Peaks through Buena Vista then turn east on US 285 passing over Trout Pass, and into Fairplay. There they’ll head north on Highway 9 passing through the historic town of Alma, then over another daunting pass, Hoosier Pass at 11,541 before descending into Breckenridge. The time of year has come to town again when locals and visitors alike don Viking hats, line Main Street for the festive parade, enjoy bon fires and fireworks and the many other events that make up the week-long Breckenridge Ullr Fest. Today the Breckenridge Ski Resort kicked off its 50th Anniversary season with great fanfare, clear blue skies and great early season snow conditions. The Colorado Superchair was turning promptly at 9am, whisking thousands of skiers and snowboarders to the top of Peak 8 for their first run of the season.
