Breckenridge Ski Resort has officially announced the opening date of Peak 6 in Breckenridge.  At noon, on Christmas Day, the lifts will be open to the public!  Over the last decade, this represents one of the largest and famous ski expansions in North America.  This is the first expansion at the Breckenridge Ski Resort since Peak 7 was opened in 2002.

With the opening of Peak 6, two new chairlifts will start running as well- the Zendo Chair and Kensho SuperChair.  Both lifts will let skiers and snowboarders access the high alpine terrain.  The new 400 acres will feature above tree line terrain, with intermediate and expert trails.  Along with the terrain that the Breckenridge Ski Resort will open, will be 138 hike-to acres.  The skiable acreage at the

The Breckenridge real estate market has seen a stellar year so far.  Through November month end, the residential market is outperforming last year by 21%.  This is an improvement from prior years.  In 2013, the Breckenridge market has already surpassed the year-end total for 2012.  Great signs that the real estate is continuing to make a comeback.

'Tis the season!

Tonight, come out and brave the cold for the Race of the Santas and Reindeer and the annual Breckenridge tree lighting.  At 4:30, over 100 holiday enthusiasts will be dressed up as Santa.  For kids under 12, you can register and get a free set of reindeer antlers and race along with Santa.  Santa and his reindeer will race down historic Main Street, Breckenridge.  It is a great event for the entire family.  At the finish line, warm-up with some cookies and hot chocolate at the Red, White, and Blue Fire Department.  Then watch the Bernese Mountain Dogs lead Santa back to the Blue River Plaza to watch the annual tree lighting. Last night, Breckenridge Ski Resort reported one inch of new snow. Since the snow has continued to blanket the mountain, this week, ski patrol gave the ok to open up the Horseshoe Bowl and North Bowl. Since the conditions are in the skiers favor, the T-Bar is now open for the season!

This week, the weather outlook is looking positive. The Rocky Mountains are preparing for a large snowstorm that could drop as much as 18 inches by Friday. Currently, the skies are cloudy and snowflakes are starting to fall from the sky. If you are still waiting to get in your first powder day, this weekend might be a good chance. This week, the slopes of the Breckenridge Ski Resort will host some amazing athletes.  Some of these athletes never thought that they would be able to ski or snowboard.  Now, they are getting that chance.  The Hartford Ski Spectacular is on of the largest winter sports festivals for those with disabilities.  From December 2nd through December 8th, the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC), Breckenridge Ski Resort and the Town of Breckenridge will help make these dreams a reality.  Over 800 participants will be taking to the slopes to learn how to ski and snowboard.  Among the participants of Ski Spec, are men and women who have returned back from combat with a permanent disability.  With the partnership with Warfighter Sports, these men and women

Ullr Fest.  It is a week when the Town of Breckenridge is turned upside down and the party begins.  It is the annual tradition of celebrating Ullr, the Norse god of snow.  He was known to travel across the land on his skis and skates.  The locals ask for the snow god to blanket the county with additional white, fluffy stuff.   As you stroll through town, it is a common sight to see people wearing their Viking hats with horns.

Adventure Journal just published an article on “8 Awesome Traditional of Mountain Towns.”  The great thing about living in a mountain town is that people come from all over the world with different traditions and festivities.  Topping their list of great mountain traditions was Breckenridge’s Ullr Fest.

Early ski season is off to a great start thanks to the snow god Ullr.  Over the weekend, Breckenridge Ski Resort reported 15 inches of new snow.  And today, the snow god is still helping us out.  The skies are cloudy and the snowflakes keep falling.  With plenty of natural snow falling from the skies, Breckenridge Ski Resort is able to open up Peak 9, starting November 23rd.  Guests can expect full service, including dining at Ten Mile Station and The Maggie.  From the Quiksilver lift, you will be able to access Silverthorne, King's way, and Crosscut.  The lower half of the Sawmill Run will be accessible from the Snowflake lift.  The Super 8 connect will also start service so that skiers and snowboarders are able to go back and forth between Peak 8 and

Breckenridge Ski Resort announced a great new way to get fresh tracks throughout the 2013/2014 season. When Breckenridge Ski Resort opens Peak 9 for the season, every Friday until the end of the season, if you are a guest at one of the Breckenridge lodging properties, then Peak 9 will open just for you!

If you have booked, or planning on booking, to stay at any of Breckenridge's official lodging properties, including The DoubleTree, Crystal Peak Lodge, One Ski Hill Place, and The Village at Breckenridge, Thursday to Friday, then you are eligible for "First Tracks Friday". Participants must hold a vaild Breckenridge lift ticket or a season pass.
