Breckenridge Loves the Bicyclists and the Return of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge

Starting on Wednesday, Breckenridge will be taken over with those passionate about biking. Breckenridge was recently recognized as a Bicycle Friendly community by the League of American Cyclists. So, August 20 through the 24th is the return of the annual Breck Bike Week. These days will be filled with great activities for all ages and levels. You just have to love riding your bike. Breck Bike Week will also be centered on the USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 5 finish on August 22nd. The world's top cyclists starting racing through the majestic Rocky Mountain today, reaching extreme elevations and enduring some of the toughest mountain passes. There is a jumbrotron setup at the Riverwalk Center, so you can catch all the action of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. On August 22nd, everyone in Breckenridge will be focused on the Stage 5 Finish. This leg of the race starts in a new host city, Woodland Park. Riders will take a scenic ride through Pike National Forest, where high speed racing and breakaways can be expected. The challenge intensifies as competitors reach Alma to take on the highest elevations of the race, 11,500 feet, up Hoosier Pass. It will be a fast descent into Breckenridge for the finish.

If you are planning on attending one of the most anticipated races in America, the Town of Breckenridge recommends that you arrive early. The USA Pro Cycling Challenge draws some of the largest crowds from all over. On Friday, you want to be at the location that you want to view the race before 1:00 p.m. The finish is tentatively scheduled for 3:30 p.m., but there will be lots of action from noon-6 p.m. The best place to park will be the free skier lots, north of town, off Highway 9 and Airport Road. There will be shuttles running to and from town all day.
