Run the Rockies in Frisco, Colorado
The Town of Frisco will be hosting the 38th annual Run the Rockies this coming weekend, June 7th, 2014. It is a challenging 10K or half marathon race at a high elevation. The normal race route starts at Copper Mountain and allows runners to enjoy a fast paced race to Frisco. Run the Rockies is a great way for runners to ease into the summer running season with a downhill run while enjoying the stunning Ten Mile Canyon views. A gun-start is schedule at 8 a.m. for those running the half marathon. Those participating in the 10K will starttheir race at 8:30 a.m. The recreationpath will still be open to the public during the race, so those that are notparticipating should expect to encounter heavy traffic. All race participants will need to take a shuttle from the Frisco Town Hall to the starting line.
This year, due to the high runoff that the high country is seeing, Run the Rockies route may be modified on the day of the race. The potential new starting line will take place in Officer's Gulch because the Summit County recreational path at Copper Mountain is currently flooded. Crews are also working on clearing the path from avalanche debris.
The night prior to Run the Rockies, the Backcountry Brewery will be hosting a spaghetti dinner from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for all participants and their families. Come enjoy the buffet style dinner- $11 for adults and $7 for children. Just don't forget to mention that you are a racer. After Run the Rockies, gather at the Frisco Historical Park (the finish line), and enjoy a free slice of pizza from Peppino's Pizza and Subs. And if you area runner of legal age, you can have a free beer courtesy of Backcountry Brewery.
