Skiers and snowboarders will appreciate being an approximate 6-mile drive away from Breckenridge Ski Resort. For even more alpine terrain, residents can travel about 30 minutes to the Copper Mountain area or to the Keystone Resort. 

The town of Frisco is also nearby. Highlights include the charming shops and restaurants on Main Street, Frisco Bay Marina, and an abundance of hiking trails. 

Summit School District serves the students living in Blue River. All of the public schools are located in Breckenridge. However, public school bus routes provide free transportation to schools from several stops in Blue River. 

The nearest private schools are Breckenridge Montessori and The Peak School in Frisco. Colorado Mountian College in Breckenridge is the primary option for higher education in the area.
